University of Missouri Extension

mulogoUsing science-based knowledge, University of Missouri Extension engages people to understand change, solve problems and make informed decisions.

Every year, more than 1 million Missourians turn to University of Missouri Extension to gain practical knowledge, solve problems, adapt to change and make informed decisions.

By tapping into statewide university research, MU Extension specialists provide Missourians with a wide range of programs in agriculture, community development, human environmental sciences, business development, youth development and continuing education.

All programs are reliable and relevant because they respond to the specific needs of Missourians. Here are just a few examples of recent accomplishments.

University of Missouri Extension is a partnership of the University of Missouri campuses, Lincoln University, the people of Missouri through county extension councils, and the National Institute for Food and Agriculture of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

2011 MU Extension Master Gardener Training Program
Fun and informative classes for gardeners of all skill levels
Who are Master Gardeners? Master Gardeners are adults of all ages who love gardening and who have previous gardening experience. Master Gardeners are members of the local community who are interested in lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, gardens, and the environment.
The mission of the Missouri Master Gardener program is: “Helping Others Learn to Grow. As part of the outreach efforts of University of Missouri Extension, Master Gardeners involve people in improving the quality of life, and enhancing the economy and environment through horticulture education, applied research, and the resources of the University of Missouri and Lincoln University.
Each year the group recruits new members who are committed to volunteering their time. That is why an interest in community service is just as important as any gardening expertise. Trained Master Gardener interns are encouraged to participate in monthly Master Gardener meetings and activities. There are several groups in the area.
Twelve (12) sessions January 25-March 3, 2011 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Classes will be held at Springfield/Greene County Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Springfield, MO
