On a recent trip to Springfield's Sister City of Tlaquepaque in Mexico, groups of government officials and citizens from both cities demonstrated why the sister city connection is so important.
In 2012, Mexico is hosting the Pan-American Games. Officials from Springfield's Parks Department wanted to visit and check out the state-of-the-art stadiums that are being built in and near Tlaquepaque. At the same time, officials in Tlaquepaque wanted to learn more about designing neighborhood parks and the school parks program for which Springfield is well known.
