Ever Green Garden Club’s community-wide 2011 Tour of Tables Tea will be held Saturday, August 13, 1-4 p.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 2434 E Battlefield Rd., Springfield. Tickets are $5 in advance or $6 at the door. Contact Bev Burchett, (417) 619-7333 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The event features uniquely designed tables for entertaining reflecting an individual theme and floral design from each of 15 Springfield botanical and community groups. Guest designers are from the Friends of the Garden, Orchid Society, Iris Society, Springfield Symphony, Springfield Regional Opera, the Springfield-Greene County Library, Hillbilly Garden Club, Brentwood Garden Club and more. Both savory and sweet treats will be offered that afternoon as well.
The event helps to fund local projects sponsored by Ever Green Garden Club (EGGC). The garden club created and maintains the following gardens: the berm and flagpole circle in front of the Springfield Art Museum, the club’s quadrant at the perennial’s garden at Nathanael Greene Park just off the parking lot of the Botanical Center and Gardens and a retreat garden at the Harmony House, a shelter for families and women who are working to overcome domestic violence.
EGGC holds gardening awareness classes for an after-school program at the Stalnaker Unit of the Boys and Girls Club. This year the club participated in a school-wide, cross-curriculum celebration of Missouri Arbor Day with Portland Elementary School, planting a red bud tree. The club participates in living green environmental projects and litter control. EGGC contributes to Horticulture Scholarships, State Blue Star Memorials and World and State Disaster Funds through the Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri.
EEGC is a member of the Springfield Council of Federated Garden Clubs and the National Federation of Garden Clubs. The club meets the fourth Wednesday of the month, January through November.
