Paper River Runs Through Local Close Memorial Park

 (Springfield, MO) -- A mixture of recycled paper and wheat seeds were combined to makeup the longest paper river in the world this weekend.

Kids and their parents helped to pour the "stream." It cuts through Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park in Springfield.

As the paper, which is died blue, begins to break down, the seeds will germinate and make a river of wheat.

"It's going to be a beautiful glowing river of green and then a river of amber waves of grain," said artist Shirah "Mimi" Aumann. "It will be a habitat for the birds and evolve over the winter season."

The river was part of the week long celebration to open the new botanical center at Nathanael Greene Park/Close Memorial Park. It concluded Sunday the 17th of October with the outdoor music concert on the Great Lawn starting with Amber Norgaard at 2:00 pm followed by Grammy-award winning singer Judy Collins.
