Mourning Cloak, Nymphalis antiopa, butterfly
Introduction and photograph by Kevin Firth
The cabin fever got bad enough that I just had to get out today (February 19, 2012). I spent a few hours hiking at Little Sac Woods and fortunately took the camera with me–I spotted my first lepidoptera of 2012, a Mourning Cloak, Nymphalis antiopa, that spent just enough time sunning itself for me to snap a few pictures.
