DESCRIPTION:The Gold Star memorial plaque is a gift from the Springfield Council of Federated Garden Clubs. \nThis plaque has been installed near the Blue Star memorial\, which honors all who have served in any capacity in the US armed services. The Gold Star memorial honors families who have lost a loved one in the armed services. \nThe dedication of the Gold Star memorial plaque will be September 15 at 2 p.m. at the Nathanael Greene flagpole.

DESCRIPTION:Central Bank and Central Trust present Gigs in the Garden\, a free concert series at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays in May of 2019 at the Peace through People Pavilion located within the beautiful Dogwood Garden in the Springfield Botanical Gardens\, 2400 S. Scenic Ave.\, Springfield\, Mo. \nGigs in the Garden features a variety of local performance groups and offers community members an exciting way to enjoy the extraordinary park. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and/or blankets for seating. In the case of inclement weather\, the concerts will move inside the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center. \nBetsy Nace and Jeremy Chesman perform on Sunday\, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. \nBetsy Nace is a Springfield native with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Missouri State University. She was a member of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra before winning the second flute position with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in Buffalo\, N.Y. During her 16-year tenure\, she worked with under conductors Maximiano Valdes and JoAnn Falletta. \nNace is passionate about chamber music and has participated in a number of chamber groups including The Amberg Quartet\, Ars Nova\, The Buffalo Chamber Players\, The National Flute Ensemble Flute Choir (with which she performed on seven CDs)\, and The Reeds/Ali Flute and Guitar Duo (with which she has recorded and toured internationally). \nNace is happy to be living back home in Springfield. She is the third flute/piccolo with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and the principal flute with the Springfield Regional Opera orchestra. She maintains a thriving private flute studio and performs as a freelance musician in the Springfield area. \nNace is excited to perform this gig with Dr. Jeremy Chesman\, a professional harpist and professor of music at Missouri State University. \nGigs in the Garden is organized by Ric Mayer\, maintainer of the Kickapoo Edge Prairie\, through Friends of the Garden and Springfield Sister Cities Association in cooperation with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. Funding for the concert series is made possible through Central Bank and Central Trust’s sponsorship of the Dogwood Garden. \nThough the concerts are free\, donations are accepted to help fund an ADA-compliant pathway through the Kickapoo Edge Prairie. Johnny penned hit songs for the likes of Loretta Lynn\, Porter Wagoner\, and Emmylou Harris among many other artists. Johnny passed away in 2009\, and since 2013 Melinda has been on a mission to share her father’s body of work\, much of which she has unearthed in “the shoebox collection” of old cassette tapes containing previously undiscovered songs. The Layton Hollow Gals share songs from The Johnny Mullins Collection with harmony\, passion\, and a good dose of fun. \n  \n\n  \n“The Layton Hollow Gals deliver a heartfelt live music history of the songwriting of Melinda’s Dad\, Johnny Mullins. DESCRIPTION:Central Bank and Central Trust present Gigs in the Garden\, a free concert series at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays in May of 2019 at the Peace through People Pavilion located within the beautiful Dogwood Garden in the Springfield Botanical Gardens\, 2400 S. Scenic Ave.\, Springfield\, Mo. \nGigs in the Garden features a variety of local performance groups and offers community members an exciting way to enjoy the extraordinary park. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and/or blankets for seating. In the case of inclement weather\, the concerts will move inside the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center. \nBarak Hill performs on Sunday\, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. \nBarak Hill is a singer-songwriter from Springfield\, Missouri\, the winner of American Songwriter Magazine’s 2012 Santa Cruz Guitar Song Contest\, and one of the top three solo musicians in Southwest Missouri in a recent 417 Magazine readers’ poll. Barak tours regularly and has shared the stage with a wide range of artists — from popular regional bands like Big Smith and The Ben Miller Band to national artists like Jay Farrar (Son Volt) and Amanda Shires (Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit). Barak’s songs and sound run in the same vein as Amos Lee\, Josh Ritter\, Steve Earle\, and Gillian Welch. Heartbroken Americana left with a fistful of hope that things might get better. Funding for the concert series is made possible through Central Bank and Central Trust’s sponsorship of the Dogwood Garden. \nThough the concerts are free\, donations are accepted to help fund an ADA-compliant pathway through the Kickapoo Edge Prairie. One of more than 40 garden areas at the Springfield Botanical Gardens\, the Kickapoo Edge Prairie is an educational demonstration of Missouri’s ecological heritage. \nThe Peace through People Pavilion was constructed in late 2016 to encourage more cultural performances and community events in the Springfield Botanical Gardens.
