DESCRIPTION:Central Bank and Central Trust present Gigs in the Garden\, a free concert series at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday\, September 20 and Sundays in October 2020 at the Peace through People Pavilion located within the beautiful Kay Cummins Finnie Dogwood Garden in the Springfield Botanical Gardens\, 2400 S. Scenic Ave.\, Springfield\, Mo. \nBring your lawn chairs or blankets and social distance to enjoy a variety of local performance groups in an extraordinary setting. In the case of inclement weather\, Friends of the Garden will livestream the concerts on social media. \nThe October 11 concert features three sets by different performers: Ivy Nix\, Aaron Mayer and Avery Mann. Nix is a singer/songwriter/producer who uses her voice and music to speak her mind. Mayer’s songs are about real people brought to life with soulful vocals over acoustic guitar. \nGigs in the Garden is organized by Ric Mayer\, maintainer of the Kickapoo Edge Prairie\, and Linda Chorice\, former Springfield Conservation Nature Center Manager. The series is managed by Friends of the Garden and Springfield Sister Cities Association in cooperation with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. \nFunding for the concert series is made possible through Central Bank and Central Trust’s sponsorship of the Dogwood Garden. Though the concerts are free to attend\, donations are accepted to benefit and improve the Springfield Botanical Gardens. \nThe Peace through People Pavilion was constructed in late 2016 to encourage more cultural performances and community events in the Springfield Botanical Gardens. The Pavilion furthers the Friends of the Garden mission to bring people\, nature\, and gardens together as well as the Springfield Sister Cities Association mission of Peace through People.

SUMMARY:Gigs: Kevin Cott
DESCRIPTION:Central Bank and Central Trust present Gigs in the Garden\, a free concert series at 2 p.m. on Sunday\, September 20 and Sundays in October 2020 at the Peace through People Pavilion located within the beautiful Kay Cummins Finnie Dogwood Garden in the Springfield Botanical Gardens\, 2400 S. In the case of inclement weather\, Friends of the Garden will livestream the concerts on social media. \nKevin Cott performs on October 4. Influenced by Americana folk roots and classic literature\, Cott’s songs are for fans of acoustic music where thoughtful lyrics and contemplative melodies take center stage. \nA singer/songwriter originally from Kansas\, Cott now resides in Springfield. His music has been called “honest and wonderfully free of clutter.” His songs celebrate providential relationships and leaving behind the hurt of the past. Lyrically\, Cott manages to find a remarkable balance between auto-biography and self-absorption — not always an easy line to walk as a song-writer\, but one he does with self-assured confidence. \nFacebook\nBandcamp \n\nGigs in the Garden is organized by Ric Mayer\, maintainer of the Kickapoo Edge Prairie\, and Linda Chorice\, former Springfield Conservation Nature Center Manager. SUMMARY:Virtual Butterfly Festival & Young Sprouts
DESCRIPTION:11th Butterfly Festival re-imagined amid COVID concerns\nFor the past decade\, the Springfield Botanical Gardens at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park has hosted thousands of gardening and butterfly enthusiasts of all ages for a day of celebrating pollinators during the annual Butterfly Festival. This year\, however\, will look a little different. \nDue to public health concerns\, organizers will take the free festival online July 13-18\, providing a virtual educational and interactive space for the public to enjoy and learn about butterflies\, as well as the Roston Native Butterfly House and the Springfield Botanical Gardens. \n“This has been a disappointing year for many of us\,” said Trysta Herzog\, executive director of Friends of the Garden (FOG)\, the organization who oversees the event. “We didn’t want this to be just another thing that was cancelled\, especially since so many kids across our region look forward to it each year.” \nFOG will partner again with Young Sprouts in the Garden to host a series of online livestream events\, tours\, activity videos\, social media costume contest and more on the FOG Facebook and Instagram pages\, as well as the FOG website\, with the hopes to generate excitement about our local pollinators and what we all can do to help preserve their habitats. Young Sprouts is a Master Gardeners of Greene County educational program for children. \n“The Butterfly House is a cornerstone of the gardens and of our mission\,” Herzog said. “We have a wonderful opportunity\, and frankly a duty\, to instill in the next generation an appreciation for just how necessary butterflies and bees are to our world.” \nThe Roston Native Butterfly House is now open to the public. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily — however\, the schedule depends on volunteer staffing availability. Call the Botanical Center at 891-1515\, ext. 2\, to confirm hours. Admission is free\, but capacity inside the Butterfly House is limited\, based on current city orders. \nThe Butterfly Festival schedule of events will be posted on the Friends of the Garden Facebook page and on their website\, friendsofthegarden.org/butterflyfestival. You may also call 417-874-2952 or e-mail info@friendsofthegarden.org for more information.

SUMMARY:Gigs in the Garden: Betsy Nace and Jeremy Chesman
DESCRIPTION:Central Bank and Central Trust present Gigs in the Garden\, a free concert series at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays in May of 2019 at the Peace through People Pavilion located within the beautiful Dogwood Garden in the Springfield Botanical Gardens\, 2400 S. Scenic Ave.\, Springfield\, Mo. \nGigs in the Garden features a variety of local performance groups and offers community members an exciting way to enjoy the extraordinary park. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and/or blankets for seating. She was a member of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra before winning the second flute position with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in Buffalo\, N.Y. During her 16-year tenure\, she worked with under conductors Maximiano Valdes and JoAnn Falletta. \nNace is passionate about chamber music and has participated in a number of chamber groups including The Amberg Quartet\, Ars Nova\, The Buffalo Chamber Players\, The National Flute Ensemble Flute Choir (with which she performed on seven CDs)\, and The Reeds/Ali Flute and Guitar Duo (with which she has recorded and toured internationally). \nNace is happy to be living back home in Springfield. She is the third flute/piccolo with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and the principal flute with the Springfield Regional Opera orchestra. She maintains a thriving private flute studio and performs as a freelance musician in the Springfield area. \nNace is excited to perform this gig with Dr. Jeremy Chesman\, a professional harpist and professor of music at Missouri State University. \nGigs in the Garden is organized by Ric Mayer\, maintainer of the Kickapoo Edge Prairie\, through Friends of the Garden and Springfield Sister Cities Association in cooperation with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. Funding for the concert series is made possible through Central Bank and Central Trust’s sponsorship of the Dogwood Garden. \nThough the concerts are free\, donations are accepted to help fund an ADA-compliant pathway through the Kickapoo Edge Prairie. One of more than 40 garden areas at the Springfield Botanical Gardens\, the Kickapoo Edge Prairie is an educational demonstration of Missouri’s ecological heritage. \nFor more information\, please call 417-874-2952 or e-mail info@friendsofthegarden.org. \nRSVP on Facebook
