Influenced by Americana folk roots and classic literature\, Cott’s songs are for fans of acoustic music where thoughtful lyrics and contemplative melodies take center stage. \nA singer/songwriter originally from Kansas\, Cott now resides in Springfield. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and/or blankets for seating. In the case of inclement weather\, the concerts will move inside the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center. \nClaude Bourbon performs on Sunday\, October 20 at 2 p.m. Based in the UK\, Bourbon is known throughout Europe and America for amazing guitar performances that take blues\, Spanish\, and Middle Eastern stylings into uncharted territories. \nBourbon’s inimitable style incorporates all five digits on each hand dancing independently but in unison\, plucking\, picking and strumming at such speed and precision that his fingers often seem to melt into a blur. Thousands of people in the UK\, Europe and USA have enjoyed listening to this virtuoso and for the majority of his audience it is an experience that compels them to return again and again to hear and watch him play\, as his fingers lightly dance over the strings of his guitar and create a unique sound that is ’Claude’. \n  \n\n  \nIt is very hard to describe the almost endless amalgam of different influences in Bourbon’s playing\, all melting into each other as he moves from classical openings across a whole continent of cultural roots – from the Balearic’s to the Balkans\, then across to the Mississippi Delta and shoehorned into all that is music that would not have been out of place in the courts of Emperors and Kings. \nBourbon weaves his songs through the audience as if on a journey through life taking in different flavors of Europe and beyond. His Spanish medieval blues evolved into Gypsy\, Eastern European\, with a splash of Paco de Lucia\, Delta Blues and more\, holding audience attention under a musical spell. \nIt’s not easy to begin to describe the breadth or mastery of the music you will hear if you are fortunate to catch one of Bourbon’s gigs; it is a sort of sensory experience like no other. A top master of his craft and never appearing to be rushed\, he has impeccable timing and makes things that one can only marvel at seem simple. \nBased in the UK\, Bourbon has played countless venues including Glastonbury Festival\, Isle of Wight Festival\, Colne Great British & Blues Festival\, Rock O’Z Arene\, Avenches and Switzerland among others. He has shared the stage in Europe and the USA with countless musicians: Calvin Russel\, Charlie Morgan (Elton John\, Gary Moore)\, Jan Akkerman (Focus)\, Steve Grossman (Miles Davis)\, Herbie Armstrong (Van Morisson)\, Jose barrense Dias and many more. \nConnect with Claude Bourbon \nWebsite\nFacebook\nTwitter\nYouTube \nAbout Gigs in the Garden \nGigs in the Garden is organized by Ric Mayer\, maintainer of the Kickapoo Edge Prairie\, and Linda Chorice\, former Springfield Conservation Nature Center Manager. Johnny penned hit songs for the likes of Loretta Lynn\, Porter Wagoner\, and Emmylou Harris among many other artists. Johnny passed away in 2009\, and since 2013 Melinda has been on a mission to share her father’s body of work\, much of which she has unearthed in “the shoebox collection” of old cassette tapes containing previously undiscovered songs. The Layton Hollow Gals share songs from The Johnny Mullins Collection with harmony\, passion\, and a good dose of fun. \n  \n\n  \n“The Layton Hollow Gals deliver a heartfelt live music history of the songwriting of Melinda’s Dad\, Johnny Mullins. I confess to not having known much about Johnny Mullins\, but now have my appetite whetted. What an interesting man he was\, working as an elementary school custodian during the day\, and exploding with poetry and songs any time\, day and night. His sweet music and human insight have made it into his daughter. I encourage you to take a listen!” — Mike Paget\, Green Guitar Folk House\, Lenexa KS \n“I had the great pleasure of working with The Layton Hollow Gals as part of our Concerts in the Courthouse series. I found them to be personable\, professional and quite entertaining. I’m looking forward to having them back for another performance.” — Eddie Osborne\, 18-year host of KTBG-FM (aka 90.9 “The Bridge”)’s weekly “Eclectic Cafe” \n  \n\n  \nLike The Layton Hollow Gals on Facebook\nLike The Johnny Mullins Collection on Facebook \n  \n\n  \nGigs in the Garden is organized by Ric Mayer\, maintainer of the Kickapoo Edge Prairie\, through Friends of the Garden and Springfield Sister Cities Association in cooperation with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. SUMMARY:Gigs in the Garden: Barak Hill
DESCRIPTION:Central Bank and Central Trust present Gigs in the Garden\, a free concert series at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays in May of 2019 at the Peace through People Pavilion located within the beautiful Dogwood Garden in the Springfield Botanical Gardens\, 2400 S. In the case of inclement weather\, the concerts will move inside the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center. \nBarak Hill performs on Sunday\, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. \nBarak Hill is a singer-songwriter from Springfield\, Missouri\, the winner of American Songwriter Magazine’s 2012 Santa Cruz Guitar Song Contest\, and one of the top three solo musicians in Southwest Missouri in a recent 417 Magazine readers’ poll. Barak tours regularly and has shared the stage with a wide range of artists — from popular regional bands like Big Smith and The Ben Miller Band to national artists like Jay Farrar (Son Volt) and Amanda Shires (Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit). Barak’s songs and sound run in the same vein as Amos Lee\, Josh Ritter\, Steve Earle\, and Gillian Welch. Heartbroken Americana left with a fistful of hope that things might get better. Honest\, well-crafted lyrics set to strong melodies connect with people on an intimate\, personal level. \n  \n\n  \n“Where Hill excels\, and so few of his contemporaries do\, is in making silence and pause into storytelling devices unto themselves…Hill’s lyrical approach is economical and plain-spoken\, the words of everyman. But they’re delivered with the careful pacing and assuredness of a man who knows the impact he wants and how to get it. It’s this sense of when not to sing or even play that lends the songs a gravitas they could lose in the hands of someone else.” — Chris DeRosier\, TAG Magazine \n“Brutally honest expressions of obstacles to love.” — Ed Peaco\, Springfield NewsLeader \n“A masterful storyteller and riveting performer.” — Brett Johnston\, Compass Rose Online \n  \n\n  \nLike Barak on Facebook \nFollow Barak on Bandcamp \n  \n\nGigs in the Garden is organized by Ric Mayer\, maintainer of the Kickapoo Edge Prairie\, through Friends of the Garden and Springfield Sister Cities Association in cooperation with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board.
