The current focus and founding purpose of Friends of the Garden, Inc., a nonprofit organization, is to financially support the development and maintenance of the Botanical Gardens at Close Memorial Park* and to help raise $2 million to build The Springfield Greene County Botanical Center at Nathanael Greene-Close Memorial Parks in southwest Springfield.  More than $1 million has already been allocated by the City of Springfield and Greene County for this project. In 2006 the voters of Springfield and Greene County approved an additional $3 million
