History of the Close Memorial Gardens:

1975, Nathanael Greene Park is created at 2400 S. Scenic. 
   
1984, Gray-Campbell Farmstead  is relocated to Nathanael Greene Park.
     
1985, the Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden is created on 7.5 acres.
        
1986, Springfield Sister City relationship with Isesaki, Japan.
     
2000, Friends of the Garden incorporates as foundation to raise funds for the Botanical Center.
        
2006, Greene County voters approve $3 million for Botanical Center.
        
2009, construction begins in the Fall on The Botanical Center, with completion due in late summer 2010.

The Friends of the Garden mission is to "establish and facilitate a Botanical Center, gardens, and arboretum at Close Botanical Gardens and Lake Drummond to inspire the discovery, understanding, and appreciation of nature."
