Guest Speaker: Cameron Smith from Olson Engineering talked about the planned South Creek changes below Close Memorial Park’s Lake Drummond dam were revealed in a slide presentation with plans to show waterway improvements that are designed to stabilize the creek bed and banks.

Bylaws Change, reports from Development, Garden and Nominating Committees. Updates from the Butterfly House. Guest speaker was Jodie Adams, Director of the Parks Department who praised FOG members for doing a tremendous job. She feels an Executive Director would help the organization (FOG) to develop faster and be more organized. George Deatz would be her pick for such a position.
Katie Steinhoff reported on the 1-year anniversary celebration of the Botanical Center on October 14-16.

New Business included the adoption of a motion to combine the Botanical Society with FOG and create a standing committee to manage the Japanese Stroll Garden.

Minutes of the July 14, 2011 meeting of Friends of the Garden.
Guest Speaker: Rexella Bennett, the new president of The Springfield Area Herb Society, was our guest speaker. She shared with us some of the exciting things going on with her group. Membership has grown since she became president and there are now 59 paid members up from only 8-15 members previously. They meet every month on the third Tuesday at 6 pm at the Botanical Center.
Reports delivered from the Development, Membership, Publicity, Garden and Nominating Committees. The Butterfly Festival and Bluegrass & Blossoms was discussed. The two festivals were combined into one.
